Description

The Hrušica Archaeological Park contains the remains of the Roman defensive wall known as Claustra Alpium Iuliarum, which protected the Roman Empire from incursions by barbarian tribes from the second half of the 3rd century to the 5th century.

Next to the Stara pošta (Old Post Office) restaurant and guest house, located at the Hrušica mountain pass, on the road between the towns of Logatec and Ajdovščina, visitors to the Hrušica Archaeological Park can view an exhibition of finds from the Ad Pirum military stronghold. The exhibition is part of the collections of the National Museum of Slovenia. The origins of the stronghold date back to 27 AD, when a staging post was built by the Romans on the slope of the Listnik hill (918m). In the late 3rd century, when a long period of peace was disrupted by incursions by various Germanic tribes, a military stronghold was built around the staging post.
